Admission Requirements

Students must meet the following minimum requirements for consideration for admission to the ºìÌÒÊÓƵ MS-SLP program:   

• Bachelor's Degree
  • Completion of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution prior to matriculation to the MS-SLP program.
• GPA
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 from the last 60 credits earned at a regionally accredited institution prior to enrollment; 3.0 GPA on SLP Core Leveling, with no single course grade below a B-.
  • We utilize a holistic admissions approach therefore applicants with a lower GPA will be considered for admissions on an individual basis for provisional acceptance.
• Applicants with a Bachelor ºìÌÒÊÓƵ ’s degree in SLP or CSD:
  • Complete a Language Science course (or equivalent linguistics course) as part of their undergraduate degree.
    or
  • Upon acceptance into the program, successfully complete the ºìÌÒÊÓƵ MS-SLP Language Science bootcamp course with a minimum score of 80% before enrolling in graduate courses.
    • This bootcamp course is available exclusively to admitted students and is offered at no additional cost.
  • Applicants with a degree in CSD or SLP may also be required to complete select prerequisite courses if their academic record does not demonstrate completion of all essential content areas outlined in the graduate admissions standards. This ensures that all applicants enter the program with a consistent baseline of knowledge necessary for advanced clinical and academic training.
• Prerequisite Coursework for Applicants with a Bachelor ºìÌÒÊÓƵ ’s degree in a field other than SLP or CSD
  • At the time of application, applicants must have completed at least six credits of required SLP Core Leveling courses, each with a grade of B- or higher.
  • Complete 25 hours of guided observations in speech-language pathology before matriculation to the program. Observation hours may be completed in the applicant ºìÌÒÊÓƵ ’s community or through our leveling program. Proof of guided observation hours must be reported with the signature and ASHA number of the practicing SLP.
    • ºìÌÒÊÓƵ offers a 1 credit hour Guided Observation course to meet this requirement prior to matriculation through our Leveling Program.   
  • Prior to matriculation in the MS-SLP program complete all:
    • General education courses  
    • ASHA pre-requisites
    • SLP Core Leveling courses with no grade lower than a B- and overall GPA of 3.0
      • Students accepted into the SLP Leveling Pathway who earn an overall 3.0 GPA on SLP Core Leveling courses and no single course grade below a B-, complete at least three leveling courses at ºìÌÒÊÓƵ, achieve a minimum 3.0 GPA in ASHA Basic Science courses, and fulfill all MS ºìÌÒÊÓƵ ‑SLP program admissions requirements will be guaranteed admission to the MS ºìÌÒÊÓƵ ‑SLP program in the next available term, pending space availability. Upon confirmation from the Program Director, the Admissions Office will automatically update the student ºìÌÒÊÓƵ ’s admission status.
• American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Prerequisite Coursework
  • All applicants must complete the foundational coursework required by ASHA in basic sciences, with each course carrying a minimum of 3 academic credits. At the discretion of the program, one course can be used to fulfill two prerequisite content areas. Further descriptions and options for fulfilling the requirements are found at:

    • Biological Science (e.g., human biology, anatomy, physiology)
    • Physical Science (chemistry or physics)
    • Statistics (focused on quantitative analysis) and/or Research Methods
    • Behavioral or Social Science (e.g., psychology, sociology, anthropology)

• Oral and Written Communication: All students enrolled in the ºìÌÒÊÓƵ MS-SLP program are expected to demonstrate effective communication skills in both spoken and written English. English proficiency is essential for successful participation in coursework, clinical training, and interprofessional collaboration. 

  Applicants whose primary language is not English, or who have completed their academic preparation in a country where English is not the official language of instruction, are required to submit verified results from an approved English language proficiency assessment. Minimum score requirements for accepted assessments are outlined below.  
  ºìÌÒÊÓƵ •    TOEFL-IBT with a minimum overall score of 61 and at least 5in the Speaking English subtest.  
  ºìÌÒÊÓƵ •    IELTS with a minimum score of 8.0,  
  ºìÌÒÊÓƵ •    STEP score minimum of Pre-1st, or  
  ºìÌÒÊÓƵ •    English-3 Proficiency score of 5 
  ºìÌÒÊÓƵ •    Duolingo score of 100
