Patrick Dougherty Sculpture Installation
A Walk on the Wild Side
Two years ago, internationally acclaimed artist Patrick Dougherty worked with over 100 volunteers from our community to build this site-specific sculpture on the campus of ������Ƶ. Start Arts Day with a visit to the sculpture and celebrate the life of the mind, life-long learning, the Wilson spirit, and the community that created this inspiring work of art. The Foundry Artists
The Foundry exhibition is a selection of member artwork from Chambersburg ������Ƶ ’s artist co-operative located at 100 South Main Street. ������Ƶ and The Foundry, are partnering for a number of exciting opportunities for Wilson students and Foundry members. Visitors to the exhibition will see paintings, sculpture, prints and photographs.

Room 300 (Drawing/Painting Studio)
FA 114, Drawing I Exhibition
Visitors will see completed drawings pinned to the walls, and works in progress on easels scattered about the studio. Drawings on the critique walls were resolved in eight hours and represent first efforts with full tone and elliptical study. Emphasis was on proportion, perspective, value/tone and the ellipse. Drawings on easels are in the beginning phase, and demonstrate the early stages of drawing development.

Room 306 (Seminar Room)
FYS 100-07, Social Justice Exhibition
Students from First Year Seminar, Section 07 worked in the graphic design studio and made digital collages addressing social in/justice. Themes were ripped from newspapers and magazines, and challenge viewers with contemporary issues. All images were developed in Adobe PhotoShop and completed in one week. It is worth noting that few students had previous knowledge of the software package or design experience, but all were able to make visually engaging designs about important subject matter.

Anne Finucane: Printmaker takes inspiration from Pennsylvania ������Ƶ ’s forests, orchards and fields. Whether rendering her subject in a somewhat abstract manner, or realistically through etchings, pastels or colored pencils, her goal is to convey the excitement she feels about the natural world to others.

Pens or No Pens: The Physician ������Ƶ ’s Dilemma.
First Floor display case through the barrel vault.
The pharmaceutical industry agreed to a voluntary moratorium on the kind of branded ������Ƶ “giveaways ������Ƶ ” ������Ƶ —pens, soap dispensers, mugs ������Ƶ — left behind in medical offices. Historically meant to foster good will, yet some would say, encouraged and influenced a doctor ������Ƶ ’s choice when ultimately writing a prescription.
Ponder the display of assorted pharmaceutical advertising items dating back to the 1950 ������Ƶ ’s from the personal collection of Dr. Harriger, Professor of Biology. Are these items for educational purpose, pure advertisement or other?

An Undersea Journey: Digital Photography of Linda Erkelens, ������Ƶ ’64
Dive into the marine world as captured by Wilson Alum Linda Erkelens, class of 1964. A world traveled diver, her digital photography captures the beauty of this often ������Ƶ “hidden ������Ƶ ” world. Her images are alive with color and movement as they pull the viewer into this watery realm. Enjoy your trip as you view these images as displayed in the Brooks Science Complex gallery spaces: first floor hallways of the Appenzeller Laboratory Wing and the Mezzanine level.

Come and meet the newest member of Wilson ������Ƶ ’s English faculty as he reads from his latest book of poetry ������Ƶ —and enjoy a little breakfast while you do!
Dr. Matthew Diltz McBride received his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati, his M.F.A. from Bowling Green State University, and his B.A. from Capital University. His first book, City of Incandescent Light, was published by Black Lawrence Press in May 2018. He is the recipient of a Devine Fellowship, a George Elliston Fellowship, an Ohio Arts Council Grant, and a Writers in the Heartland residency. Welcome one of Wilson ������Ƶ ’s newest faculty/family members, all while enjoying some morning coffee and pastries!

Barrel Firing and Pottery Making Demonstrations
The Arts Center (AKA The Art Barn)
Denise Joyal (Adjunct Professor of Ceramics & the MFA program) will host a barrel firing behind the Arts Center. She will load the ceramic works and materials beginning at 10 am, while explaining her more modern take on the earliest methods used for making clay vitreous: fire. The barrel will be unloaded as it cools around 2 pm. In the intervening hours, she will demonstrate wheel throwing and hand-building techniques in the Art Center. Stop by for fun with fire and earth! Women Put on the Pressure: Women in Printmaking

A look at four innovative artists making hand-pulled prints. We will look at the work of Mary Cassatt, Käthe Kollwitz, Lee Bontecou, and Pat Steir and focus on concepts more than technique. Presented in conjunction with FA 238 Women Artists ������Ƶ – Women in Art the talk is about 45 minutes long.

The latest inductee into the ������Ƶ Author ������Ƶ ’s Hall of Fame is Rida Johnson Young (Class of 1894), who left Wilson to pursue a career as a playwright and songwriter. Quickly, she rose to great prominence on Broadway, writing the lyrics to over 500 songs and authoring hit Broadway shows. Her most famous songs include ������Ƶ “Mother Machree, ������Ƶ ” ������Ƶ “Italian Street Song, ������Ƶ ” and ������Ƶ “Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life. ������Ƶ ” The latter two were from her show Naughty Marietta, an operetta made into a hit movie in 1935 starring Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy (and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Movie, too). End your Arts Day by watching a classic film, with words and lyrics by one of Wilson ������Ƶ ’s own.
